HO73/4, report of the Police Association.
This is an extract from a Report to the Royal Commission on a Rural
Constabulary, 1834, from the Cotswold village of Bourton-on-the-Water
and surrounding parishes. It describes how pleased they were to have
hired an ex-Metropolitan policeman. However, the Report goes on to
state that they do not want a police force on London lines to be set
up. |

In these documents from five different
parts of England, look for: attitudes towards the Metropolitan
Police; attitudes towards the old, local constables; attitudes
towards setting up local police on Metropolitan lines. |
