(i) LK3/3, Police Complaints Authority Report. In the huge
increase in crime which took place in the last third of the
20th century, more criminals carried guns. The police did
not always get their response right: some innocent people
were shot, some armed criminals got away. Scenes such as the
one in this picture disturbed the traditional picture of the
unarmed British police.

These sources are all quite easy
to understand. As you look at them, think about: which aspect
of police work will be changed? Is this technology an entirely
new approach, or a new way of doing an old job? There is some
evidence, too, of the attitudes of: the police (Source 2), criminals
(Source 3) and the public (Source 4) to these changes. |
