• Berlin was divided into four zones of occupation at the end of WW2.
• Each occupied zone was controlled by a military governor, mainly because the old system of government in Germany had collapsed or could not be trusted because it was part of the old Nazi regime.
  
• The British military governor met regularly with the military governors of the American and French zones, and the civilian mayor of Berlin.
