Browsers

For best viewing of the Learning Curve website we recommend that you use one of the following web browsers:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 or above
  • Mozilla Firefox 1.0 or above
  • Safari 2.0.4 or above

The website will be more enjoyable if you have style sheets and JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Text size

If you find the text on the Learning Curve website too small or too big, you can change it using your browser menu.

Internet Explorer v7.0:

  1. Select the Page menu
  2. Select Text Size
  3. Select your choice of Largest, Larger, Medium, Smaller, Smallest text sizes

Internet Explorer v6.0:

  1. Select the View menu
  2. Select Text Size
  3. Select your choice of Largest, Larger, Medium, Smaller, Smallest text sizes

Firefox v1.5+:

  1. Select the View menu
  2. Select the Text Size option
  3. Select Increase or Decrease to get the desired text size

Alternatively, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard and press the + key to increase the text size or the - key to decrease the text size.

Netscape v6.0+:

  1. Select the View menu on your browser
  2. Scroll to Text Zoom
  3. Select the desired text size

Popups

Learning Curve uses pop-up windows. If nothing happens when you click on some of the links, you may have a pop-up blocking program on your computer. You can try:

  • Holding down the CTRL key as you click on a link – this may over-ride the pop-up blocker
  • Adding www.learningcurve.gov.uk to a ‘whitelist’ in your pop-up blocking programme.

Plug-ins and file formats

Learning Curve uses various formats for documents, video and sound. Depending on what’s already installed on your computer, you may need to download additional software.

Adobe Portable document format (PDF) files

You need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view or print PDF documents. Download Acrobat Adobe Reader

Adobe also provides tools to help blind and visually impaired people access PDF documents. These tools are available at http://access.adobe.com

Changing the font size in a PDF file

To increase the font size in a PDF document, do one of the following:

  • Use the + icon on the Adobe Acrobat toolbar
  • Hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard while pressing the + key

Rich text format (RTF) files

RTF files can be opened with word processing programs such as Microsoft Word, WordPerfect, AppleWorks, Star Office and OpenOffice’s Writer.

If you do not have a word processing program installed on your computer, you can download Word Viewer from Microsoft.
