Introduction to Learning Curve
What is the Learning Curve?
Learning Curve is a free history website for history teachers and students. All our content is based on the National Curriculum in history for key stages 2-5.
The important difference with our site is that it offers an educational approach, rather than just a content-based one. We provide information in ways that will help your child’s learning (and in activities that they will enjoy doing). It will reinforce the work your child will be doing at school and is targeted to the appropriate age range. These are:
- Key stage 2 (7-11years old)
- Key stage 3 (11-14 years old)
- Key stage 4 (14-16 years old)
- Key stage 5 (16-18 years old)
Younger children may need some help; older ones can work more independently.
Our aim is to help your child get the most out of their study of the subject by using some of the amazing documents and images from the National Archives. We have used these to create short lessons, activities and games, as well as larger exhibitions suitable for in-depth research. We hope that our website will bring history to life and develop your child’s skills as a historian.
How can children use it?
This site can be used for:
- Project and research work
- Homework
- Practice for questions in exams, especially questions based on historical sources
- Revision before exams of content in the History National Curriculum and GCSE courses
Your child will gain:
- History learning skills, for example, how to find and use original sources, how to interpret a photograph or a film, how to critically examine conflicting interpretations of events
- Broader subject knowledge
- Enjoyment of history through activity-based learning
- Improved ICT skills
- Improved literacy skills
- Tips on how to use primary sources, write essays and revise for exams
